15 Symptoms Of Cancer You Should Not Ignore

Kindly Take Note of These Signs and Changes in Your Body

1. Skin Changes
When you notice a change in the size, shape, or color of a mole or other spot on your skin, see your doctor as soon as you can. Spots that are new or look different are top signs of skin cancer. You’ll need an exam and perhaps a biopsy, which means doctors remove a small piece of tissue for testing. With skin cancer, you don't want to wait, says Marleen Meyers, MD, an oncologist at NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center.

2. Changes in Your Testicles
"If you notice a lump, heaviness, or any other change in your testicle, never delay having it looked at," says Herbert Lepor, MD, urology chairman at New York University Langone Medical Center. "Unlike prostate cancer, which grows slowly, testicular cancer can take off overnight." Your doctor will look for any problems with a physical exam, blood tests, and an ultrasound of your scrotum.15 Symptoms Of Cancer You Should Not Ignore

Diffrent Kinds of Cancer

3. Blood in Your Pee or Stool
These can be among the first signs of cancer of the bladder, kidneys, or colon. It's a good idea to see your doctor for any bleeding that’s not normal, even if you don't have other symptoms, Lepor says. Although you're more likely to have a problem that's not cancer, like hemorrhoids or a urinary infection, it's important to find and treat the cause.

4. Problems When You Pee
Many men have some problems peeing as they get older, like:
  • A need to pee more often, especially at night
  • Dribbling, leaking, or an urgent need to go
  • Trouble starting to pee, or a weak stream
An enlarged prostate gland usually causes these symptoms, but so can prostate cancer. See your doctor to check on the cause of the problem. He’ll give you an exam to look for an enlarged prostate, and he may talk to you about a blood test (called a PSA test) for prostate cancer.

5. Changes in Lymph Nodes
Swollen lymph nodes, small bean-shaped glands found in your neck, armpits, and other places, often signal that something's going on in your body. Usually, they mean your immune system is fighting a sore throat or cold, but certain cancers also can make them change. Have your doctor check any swelling that doesn't get better in 2 to 4 weeks, Meyers says.

6. Trouble Swallowing

Some people have trouble swallowing from time to time. But if your problems don’t go away and you’re also losing weight or vomiting, your doctor may want to check you for throat or stomach cancer. He’ll start with a throat exam and barium X-ray. During a barium test, you drink a special liquid that makes your throat stand out on the X-ray.

7. Heartburn

You can take care of most cases of heartburn with changes to your diet, drinking habits, and stress levels. If that doesn’t help, ask your doctor to look into your symptoms. Heartburn that doesn't go away or gets worse could mean stomach or throat cancer.

8. Fever

A fever is usually not a bad thing -- it means your body is fighting an infection. But one that won't go away and doesn’t have an explanation could signal leukemia or another blood cancer. Your doctor should take your medical history and give you a physical exam to check on the cause.

9. Breast Changes

"Men tend to ignore breast lumps because breast cancer isn't on their radar," Meyers says. "But 1% of all breast cancers occur in men, although they're usually diagnosed much later." Don’t take any chances. If you find a lump, tell your doctor and have it checked.

10. Mouth Changes

If you smoke or chew tobacco, you have a higher risk of mouth cancer. Keep an eye out for white or red patches inside your mouth or on your lips. Talk to your doctor or dentist about tests and treatments.

11. Weight Loss Without Trying

Pants fitting a little looser? If you haven’t changed your diet or exercise habits, it could mean that stress or a thyroid problem is taking a toll. But losing 10 pounds or more without trying isn’t normal. Although most unintended weight loss is not cancer, it’s one of the signs of cancer of the pancreas, stomach, or lungs. Your doctor can find out more with blood tests and tools that make detailed pictures of the inside of your body, like a CT or PET scan.

12. Pain

Cancer doesn’t cause most aches and pains, but if you’re hurting for more than a month, don’t just grin and bear it. Ongoing pain can be a signal of many types of cancer, especially those that have spread, Lepor says.

13. Belly Pain and Depression

It’s rare, but depression along with stomach pain can be a sign of cancer of the pancreas. Should you worry? Not unless this cancer runs in your family, Meyers says. Then you need to see your doctor.

14. Cough

In nonsmokers, a nagging cough is almost never cancer. Most go away after 3 to 4 weeks. If yours doesn’t, and you’re short of breath or cough up blood, don't delay a visit to your doctor, especially if you smoke. A cough is the most common sign of lung cancer. Your doctor can test mucus from your lungs to see if you have an infection. He may also give you a chest X-ray to check for another problem.

15. Fatigue

Many types of cancer cause a bone-deep tiredness that never gets better, no matter how much rest you get. It’s different from the exhaustion you feel after a hectic week or a lot of activity. If fatigue is affecting your daily life, talk to your doctor. She can help you find the cause and let you know if there are ways to treat it.

Unhealthy Foods Your must Limit From Your Diet

Some foods are known to have a devastating effect on your brain functioning, and nutritionists advise us to consume them moderately in order to limit their negative impact. Here are some foods that kill your intelligence, slowly but surely:

http://www.maturedminds.com/2014/09/unhealthy-foods-your-must-limit-from.htmlSugary products: Sugar and sugary products are bad not only for your waistline, but for your brain function as well. Long-term consumption of sugar can create a wealth of neurological problems,
and it can also interfere with your memory.
On the other hand, sugar can also interfere with your ability to learn, this is why it is recommended to avoid pre-baked goods, sugar, corn syrup and products that are high in fructose.

Alcohol: Alcohol is known to harm your liver in the long run, and it also causes what is known as “brain fog” – which refers to a feeling of mental confusion and acts like a cloud that impacts your ability to think clearly, as well as your memory. High alcohol intake impacts the balance of the brain.

Junk food: A recent study that was performed at the University of Montreal has revealed that junk food can change the chemicals in the brains, thus leading to symptoms associated with depression and anxiety. Besides, foods that are high in fat can also trigger some symptoms that are similar to the signs of withdrawal when you stop consuming them. These foods affect the production of dopamine, an important chemical that promotes happiness and an overall feeling of well-being.
Moreover, dopamine also supports the cognitive function, the learning capacity, alertness, motivation and memory. This is why it is important to avoid all foods that contain excessive fat.

Fried foods: Almost all processed foods contain chemicals, dyes, additives, artificial flavours, preservatives and such – these can affect the behaviour and the cognitive functioning due to the chemical that causes hyperactivity, both in children and in adults. Fried or processed foods slowly destroy the nerve cells located in the brain. However, some oils are more dangerous than others – sunflower oil is considered to be among the most toxic ones.

Health Benefits of Potatoes

Nutritional Benefits of Potatoes:  You may have heard about the new research that indicates that potatoes help lower blood pressure. In the study, 18 overweight or obese people with high blood pressure downed six to eight purple potatoes, each about the size of a golf ball (with skins, microwaved without oil) twice daily for a month. The spud eaters’
average diastolic blood pressures dropped by 4.3 percent and the systolic pressure decreased by 3.5 percent, and none of the volunteers gained weight. The news isn’t too surprising because other studies have identified natural substances in potatoes that act similar to those in blood pressure medications, and potatoes are a great source of potassium, a nutrient known to keep blood pressure under control. The study used purple potatoes, because the pigment that gives them their pretty hue is rich in beneficial antioxidants. There's more—besides providing fiber, vitamin C and B vitamins, once you cook and then cool them, potatoes become loaded with resistant starch, a unique kind of carbohydrate that’s been shown to naturally rev up your body’s fat-burning furnace. Like fiber, you can’t digest or absorb resistant starch, so your body ferments it when it reaches the large intestine, which triggers your body to burn fat instead of carbohydrates. A pretty nice bonus!

Managing Weight with potatoes.
Despite its accolades, another Harvard study made big headlines earlier this year when the scientists found that potatoes – in any form – were linked to weight gain. Scientists tracked the diet and lifestyle choices of more than 120,000 participants for at least 12 years. They found that over four-year spans, those who ate an extra serving of French fries daily gained an average of 3.4 pounds, those who munched an extra serving of potato chips daily gained an average of 1.7 pounds, and an additional serving of potatoes prepared in any form was linked to an average of 1.3 pounds of extcera padding. Hmmm, not so great news.

Summary
Overall, I think the good outweighs the bad, especially if like me, potatoes are one of your favorite foods. However, I do think moderation is key. In my newest book, I did not include potatoes as a key part of the weight loss plan. Instead, I emphasized whole grains because of the vast research regarding their importance for both weight control and optimal health. But I do think it’s OK to trade your whole grain portion for skin-on potatoes a few times per week. Pick any kind you like: fingerling, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, blue, Yukon Gold, Russet. The trick is to prepare them healthfully and watch your portion size. Stick to about a half-cup (the size of half of a tennis ball) prepared in healthy ways:
Preparation
-Slice or cube then roast or grill in foil brushed with extra virgin olive oil and season with rosemary

-Microwave or broil and drizzle with pesto, from basil to roasted red pepper, sundried tomato or artichoke

-Cube and saute with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, onions and bell peppers

-Bake and garnish with healthy toppings like plain, nonfat Greek yogurt and fresh or dried herbs, a ladle of vegetarian chili, feta cheese, or chunky marinara sauce

-Cook, chill and toss with a simple balsamic vinaigrette or a mixture of Dijon mustard, roasted garlic, red wine vinegar and paprika

What you Need To Know About Ebola Virus

A Liberian man died in Nigeria on July 24, having flown in to Lagos after a stopover in Togo. That the man died in Africa's largest city has deeply worried authorities.
There have been no Ebola Virus cases from people returning to the UK from Africa.
Guinea is not a big tourist destination with only around 2,600 visits a year from the UK, mostly on business - but 117,000 Britons visit Nigeria each year.

What is Ebola? Ebola virus disease, sometimes known as EVD, is a highly infectious, usually fatal virus that leads to flu-like symptoms and severe internal bleeding.

Ebola Virus

Just how deadly is Ebola?
The survival rate is very low. Somewhere between 60 percent and 90 percent of the people who develop Ebola will die.

Symptoms of Ebola Virus?
Ebola is often characterized by the sudden onset of flu-like symptoms including fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat. These are followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rash, impaired kidney and liver function, and sometimes internal and external bleeding.

The Origin Of Ebola Virus?
Ebola first appeared in 1976. There were two simultaneous outbreaks, in Nzara, Sudan, and in Yambuku in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire). The Congolese outbreak occurred in a village near the Ebola River, which is how the disease gets its name.

How is Ebola spread from person to person?
The good news is that Ebola isn't transmitted through the air. You aren't going to get Ebola if an infected person sits next to you or sneezes in the same room. The disease is transmitted through contract with bodily fluids, such as blood. Health care workers are particularly at risk if they are not wearing appropriate protective equipment, such as masks, gowns and gloves.

What's the incubation period for Ebola?
The time from infection with the virus to the onset of symptoms ranges from 2 to 21 days.

Any cure for Ebola?
Right now, there isn't one. Doctors typically provide supportive care to patients, which may include oxygen, blood transfusion and fluids and treating subsequent infections.

Without Your Love I would Die

One night a guy and a girl were driving home from a party. The boy sensed there was something wrong because of the painful silence they shared between themselves that night. The girl then asked the boy to pull over because she wanted to talk. She told him that her feelings had changed and that it was time to move on.
A silent tear slid down his cheek as he slowly reached into his pocket & passed her a folded note.

At that moment, a drunk driver was speeding down that very same street. He swerved right into the drivers seat, killing the boy. Miraculously, the girl survived. Remembering the note, she pulled it out & read it. "Without your love, I would die

Coping with Ups and Downs in Relationship

It’s important to recognize that there are ups and downs in every relationship. You won’t always be on the same page. Sometimes one partner may be struggling with an issue that stresses them, such as the death of a close family member. Other events, like job loss or severe health problems, can affect both partners and make it difficult to relate to each other. You might have different ideas of managing finances or raising children. Different people cope with stress differently, and misunderstanding can rapidly turn to frustration and anger.

Relationship advice for getting through life’s ups and downs
  • Don’t take out your problems on your partner. Life stresses can make us short tempered. If you are coping with a lot of stress, it might seem easier to snap at your partner. Fighting like this might initially feel like a release, but it slowly poisons your relationship. Find other ways to vent your anger and frustration.
  • Some problems are bigger than both of you. Trying to force a solution can cause even more problems. Every person works through problems and issues in his or her own way. Remember that you’re a team. Continuing to move forward together can get you through the rough spots.
  • Be open to change. Change is inevitable in life, and it will happen whether you go with it or fight it. Flexibility is essential to adapt to the change that is always taking place in any relationship, and it allows you to grow together through both the good times and the bad.
  • Don’t ignore problems. Whatever problems arise in a romantic relationship, it’s important to face them together as a couple. If an aspect of the relationship stops working, don’t simply ignore it, but instead address it with your partner. Things change, so respond to them together as they do.
